Psychosocial support

Despite the aid efforts and programs put in place, the situation of urban refugees remains precarious - insufficient food, unemployment and lack of income. Many of these refugees who are in the cities still have after-effects of torture, gunshot wounds or grenades that result in the amputation of some limbs, while others have chronic diseases. These categories of refugees are forced to stay in urban centers because they are hospitalized or have easy access to medical care. Programs to support income-generating activities are set up by Shalom House and other partners to help refugees earn income and support themselves. But this support remains very inadequate in view of the needs of the refugees, the great majority of whom have fled leaving everything behind and have to start their lives from scratch. Faced with this situation, Maison Shalom provides psychological support, medical assistance, food and other necessities of life to support the poorest and unsupported refugees.
