Maison Shalom International inaugurated the Hozagara Hub in the Mahama sector (Munini, Kabeza) - Monday, June 22, 2020
The new centre integrates different activities that will benefit refugees in Mahama camp, residents of the Mahama host community and partners in the region.
Marguerite Barankitse, founder of Maison Shalom and the Executive Secretary of the Mahama sector, as guest of honour, cut the ribbon for the grand opening of the Hozagara Hub. The new facility integrates a variety of activities including a restaurant, bakery, pizzeria and conference room.
Marguerite Barankitse began by thanking His Excellency the President of the Republic of Rwanda and Rwandans who have welcomed and given a home to refugees from different nations. In her inaugural speech, she then stated that: "we are opening this centre to offer a pleasant restaurant near Mahama and so that the laureates in culinary arts supported by Maison Shalom can be employed".
World Refugee Day was also highlighted by Ms. Marguerite on that day: "We are also gathered here to mark World Refugee Day which is a painful day because being a refugee is an injustice; however, we are full of hope, and we are learning a lot from our Rwandan hosts".
This multi-purpose centre aims to contribute to the development of Munini's cell and its community, which brings together refugees and the Rwandan community. The executive secretary of Mahama sector expressed his appreciation for this great initiative which enables refugees to be self-sufficient and have dignity and it contributes to the development of Mahama's tourism sector.
The inauguration was followed by a meal together for a very limited number of people due to the restriction of large gatherings to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Guests were also able to enjoy the delicious meals prepared at the Hozagara Hub restaurant.
We thank Friends of Humanity and other donors. We also thank MINEMA, UNHCR and other partners.
